In recent years, the paradigm of video coding has shifted from that of a frame-based approach to a content-based approach, particularly with the finalization of the ISO multimedia coding standard, MPEG-4. MPEG-4 is the emerging standard for the coding of multimedia content. It defines a syntax for a set of content-based functionalities, namely, content-based interactivity, compression and universal access. However, it does not specify how the video content is to be generated. To generate the video content, video has to be segmented into video objects and tracked as they transverse across the video frames. This book addresses the difficult problem of video segmentation, and the extraction and tracking of video object planes as defined in MPEG-4. It then focuses on the specific issue of face segmentation and coding as applied to videoconferencing in order to improve the quality of videoconferencing images especially in the facial region.
Modal-based coding is a content-based coding technique used to code synthetic objects that have become an important part of video content. It results in extremely low bit rates because only the parameters needed to represent the modal are transmitted. Model-based coding is included to provide background information for the synthetic object coding in MPEG-4. Lastly, MPEG-4, the first coding standard for multimedia content is described in detail. The topics covered include the coding of audio objects, the coding of natural and synthetic video objects, and error resilience.
Advanced Video Coding is one of the first books on content-based coding and MPEG-4 coding standard. It serves as an excellent information source and reference for both researchers and practicing engineers.

"Human-Computer Interaction and Management Information Systems: Applications" offers state-of-the-art research by a distinguished set of authors who span the MIS and HCI fields. The original chapters provide authoritative commentaries and in-depth descriptions of research programs that will guide 21st century scholars, graduate students, and industry professionals. Human-Computer Interaction (or Human Factors) in MIS is concerned with the ways humans interact with information, technologies, and tasks, especially in business, managerial, organizational, and cultural contexts. It is distinctive in many ways when compared with HCI studies in other disciplines. The MIS perspective affords special importance to managerial and organizational contexts by focusing on analysis of tasks and outcomes at a level that considers organizational effectiveness. With the recent advancement of technologies and development of many sophisticated applications, human-centeredness in MIS has become more critical than ever before. This work focuses on applications and evaluations including special case studies, specific contexts or tasks, HCI methodological concerns, and the use and adoption process.

The Complete Idiot's GuideA (R) to Tantric Sex covers every aspect of this ancient practice, from the sacred beliefs of Tantra which form the basis for Tantric loving to the process of preparing for and practicing Tantric techniques. The book is broken down into six parts, including: the secret sexual world of Tantra; preparing your mind for Tantric sex; preparing your body for Tantric sex; preparing your spirit for Tantric sex; the art of Tantric self-love; and the joy of Tantric sex.
It’s exciting for me to see the tantric perspective coming more and more into mainstream thought. People may be drawn to tantric practices hoping to enhance their sexual satisfaction. It does an amazing job of improving what you already know and enjoy, but it also takes sexuality to another dimension entirely, an experience way beyond “normal.”
Tantra is much more than a sexual teaching. Tantric practice can transform every aspect of your life, helping you to expand your physical health and vitality, emotional healing and expression, psychic sensitivity, satisfying relationships, creativity, productivity, and abundance. It is not unusual for someone to tell me after a few months of tantric involvement that he or she feels like a different person, much less stressed, much more comfortable, more joyful.
Dr. Judy is uniquely qualified to be a major tantric communicator, to be the means through which this message goes forward to a broad population. Through her studies and research, her writings, her years on radio and in the media, she knows her subject and knows how to capture people’s interest. She speaks directly of sexual matters, but also appreciates the deeper potential of tantra.
In this book Dr. Judy has presented a broad overview as well as specific things you can do to begin your personal exploration. Tantra is really a spiritual path, leading to selfdiscovery, to realizing you are much more magnificent than you ever guessed. If you have the courage to try something new, this book will guide you through your first steps, get you started on a great adventure.

Acclaimed trading expert and bestselling author of the Market Wizards books, Jack Schwager, has returned with a new and fascinating collection of interviews with the best stock market traders and investors of our time.
Focusing exclusively on successful players in the stock market, Schwager delivers informative profiles and trading strategies from fifteen traders and investors who have ridden the most dynamic bull market in U.S. history to stunning success.
The past decade has witnessed the market-shaking introduction of the Internet, a collapse in commodity prices, and dramatic failures in some of the world's leading hedge funds. How have these traders managed to dwarf the already substantial gains realized by the stock market during the 1990s, while largely sidestepping the market's periodic downdrafts? What separates them from ordinary investors, and even the vast majority of professional fund managers? And what lessons can the average trader or investor learn from these exceptional traders?
Schwager gets the answers from phenomenally successful traders, including
- Michael Lauer, an outspoken fund manager, who explains why he believes many of the country's leading mutual funds are following a flawed strategy and whose own fund provided investors with a 50-fold return in seven years
- Mark Cook, a midwestern farmer who registered back-to-back annual gains of 563 and 322 percent in national trading contests he entered in 1992 and 1993 and has continued to realize stratospheric returns in his own account since then
- Steve Lescarbeau, who developed a computerized trading model that has earned him an average of 70 percent per year with an incredibly low maximum drawdown of only 3 percent
- Steve Cohen, a modern-day trading legend who manages billions and who has averaged trading returns of 90 percent during the past seven years with only three down months (the worst, a minuscule 2 percent loss)
- Mark Minervini, a junior high school dropout, who has averaged a 220 percent annual return during the past five years, while keeping his maximum quarterly loss to a fraction of one percent
These are just a few of the traders you'll meet in Stock Market Wizards' all-star lineup of market masters.
In the final chapter, Schwager pulls it all together, distilling the essential advice and insights from all the interviews into a list of 65 market lessons, which are bound to be invaluable to both novices and market professionals.
Stock Market Wizards gives you the stories, tips. and an inside glimpse into today's vibrant market and the traders who can ride the bull, battle the bear, and still come out on top.

One of the most important of Jung's longer works, and probably the most famous of his books, Psychological Types appeared in German in 1921 after a "fallow period" of eight years during which Jung had published little. He called it "the fruit of nearly twenty years' work in the domain of practical psychology," and in his autobiography he wrote: "This work sprang originally from my need to define the ways in which my outlook differed from Freud's and Adler's. In attempting to answer this question, I came across the problem of types; for it is one's psychological type which from the outset determines and limits a person's judgment. My book, therefore, was an effort to deal with the relationship of the individual to the world, to people and things. It discussed the various aspects of consciousness, the various attitudes the conscious mind might take toward the world, and thus constitutes a psychology of consciousness regarded from what might be called a clinical angle."
In expounding his system of personality types Jung relied not so much on formal case data as on the countless impressions and experiences derived from the treatment of nervous illnesses, from intercourse with people of all social levels, "friend and foe alike," and from an analysis of his own psychological nature. The book is rich in material drawn from literature, aesthetics, religion, and philosophy. The extended chapters that give general descriptions of the types and definitions of Jung's principal psychological concepts are key documents in analytical psychology

Mr. Hill said "the most powerful instrument we have in our hand is the power of our mind." Napoleon Hill compiled this philosophy of American achievement for the benefit of all people. While Adobe Photoshop has long been their choice for editing digital photographs, many photographers want a more focused tool. That’s where Adobe Photoshop Lightroom comes in. Designed from the ground up with digital photographers in mind, Photoshop Lightroom offers powerful editing features in a streamlined interface that lets photographers import, sort, and organize images. This completely updated and expanded bestseller, The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 Book, was also written with photographers in mind. Author Martin Evening describes features in Photoshop Lightroom 2 in detail from a photographer’s perspective. As an established commercial and fashion photographer, Martin knows first-hand what photographers need for an efficient workflow. He has also been working with Lightroom from the beginning, monitoring the product’s development and providing feedback on the public beta. As a result, Martin knows the software inside and out, from image selection to image editing to image management.
The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 Book contains 624 pages of comprehensive and detailed coverage of all aspects of Lightroom. In this book you’ll learn how to:
• Work efficiently with images shot in the raw or JPEG format
• Import photographs with ease and sort them according to your workflow
• Create and manage a personal image library
• Apply tonal adjustments to multiple images quickly
• Integrate Photoshop Lightroom with Adobe Photoshop
• Export images for print or Web as digital contact sheets or personal
portfolios
The book structure has been organized to match a typical Lightroom workflow. The introductory chapter provides an overview of all the main Lightroom features, showing how Lightroom 2 was used on a studio photo shoot that was specially shot to illustrate the book. The following chapters cover all the essentials, such as importing photos, working with the Library module, and managing the catalog database. The biggest section of the book is devoted to working with the Develop module and provides some unique insights into working with new features such as the localized adjustment tools. There is also a whole chapter devoted to image sharpening and another on integrating Lightroom and Photoshop, where you will learn how to devise the best workflow methods for working between these two programs. This is followed by a chapter on printing and a presentation chapter on the Slideshow and Web modules. Lastly, there are two appendix chapters. One offers a complete overview of the Lightroom 2 preference settings, while the other provides some in-depth explanations and background reading on how the Lightroom program works.
The book is richly illustrated, mostly using the author’s own photographs, and one of the nice features of this book is the way enlarged panel views are used throughout, making it easier for readers to follow the settings used in the various step-by-step examples. There are also lots of tips that will help you take your Lightroom techniques to an advanced level.
If you are looking for the most comprehensive coverage of Lightroom, written by an author who is closely involved with the development of the program, this is the book to get.

Financial Products provides a step-by-step guide to some of the most important ideas in financial mathematics. It describes and explains interest rates, discounting, arbitrage, risk neutral probabilities, forward contracts, futures, bonds, FRA and swaps. It shows how to construct both elementary and complex (Libor) zero curves. Options are described, illustrated and then priced using the Black Scholes formula and binomial trees. Finally, there is a chapter describing default probabilities, credit ratings and credit derivatives (CDS, TRS, CSO and CDO). Software. Hardware. Networks. Wireless. Entrepreneurs face a bewildering array of choices and decisions when it comes to incorporating technology into the fabric of their businesses. Yet nothing could be more important these days. Aligning information technology (IT) with business strategy is essential to meet and beat the competition. As business strategy and technology expert CJ Rhoads shows, managing information technology effectively is an essential skill that all entrepreneurs must develop, just as they develop skills in sales or finance. However, due to the immaturity of the IT industry, making good decisions about information technology is very difficult. Reliable and unbiased information is hard to find, and technical people are often unable to convey information in a way that makes sense to entrepreneurs. The Entrepreneur's Guide to Managing Information Technology to the rescue! Reading this book could mean the difference between having reliable, effective systems that help your business flourish--or stumbling into hidden sink holes that drain employee motivation and hack away at profits. In addition to helping you level the playing field with technology salespeople hawking everything from handheld devices to complex networks, Rhoads answers the following questions:
-How do I get the promised benefits of information technology?
-How do I avoid the risks?
-How do I plan for the information technology that I will need as the business grows?
-How do I choose wisely from the plethora of platforms, products, and services that are available?
-How do I avoid wasting money on technology that won't work for me?
-How do I implement and coordinate technology so that it runs smoothly?
-How do I manage the people, processes, and systems for the best value?
Understanding the answers to these questions and putting them to work could mean the difference between success and failure in any entrepreneurial venture. Readers will learn to recognize hype when they see it, and they will focus on how to profit the most from IT. At the very least, readers will avoid thousands of dollars in lost costs by avoiding risky technology projects. The knowledge contained in this book separates the winners from the whiners in the quest to better employ information technology. Which would you like to be?

Artificial vision is a rapidly growing discipline, aiming to build computational models of the visual capabilites in humans, as well as the machines that emulate them. Recent research work suggests that vision is a complex functionality, involving active sensing and attentional mechanisms, and is strictly related to cognitive processes like learning, reasoning and communicating. Visual communication in itself has a dramatic impact on contemporary culture, where human-computer interaction and human dialogue via computers play a more and more significant role.
ARTIFICIAL VISION is a book which will be essential reading for students and researchers in applied computer science, pattern recognition, artificial intelligence and vision, who want to grasp the concepts and directions of this challenging field.

Contemporary Physics
This textbook fills a gap in the existing literature on general relativity by providing the advanced student with practical tools for the computation of many physically interesting quantities. The context is provided by the mathematical theory of black holes, one of the most elegant, successful and relevant applications of general relativity. Topics discussed include congruences of timelike and null geodesics, the embedding of spacelike, timelike and null hypersurfaces in spacetime, and the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formulations of general relativity. Suitable for graduate students and researchers in gravitational physics.

Dramatic progress has been made in particle physics during the past two decades. A series of important experimental discoveries has firmly established the existence of a subnuclear world of quarks and leptons. The protons and neutrons (" nucleons"), which form nuclei, are no longer regarded as elementary particles ut are found to be made of quarks. That is, in the sequence molecules ~ atoms ~ nuclei ~ nucleons, there is now known to be another "layer in the structure of matter." However, the present euphoria in particle physics transcends this remarkable discovery. The excitement is due to the realization that the dynamics of quarks and leptons can be described by an extension of the sort of quantum field theory that proved successful in describing the electromagnetic interactions of charged particles. To be more precise, the fundamental interactions are widely believed to be described by quantum field theories possessing local gauge symmetry. One of the aims of this book is to transmit a glimpse of the amazing beauty and power of these gauge theories. We discuss quarks and leptons, and explain how they interact through the exchange of gauge field quanta (photons, gluons, and weak bosons).

This book is aimed at providing all of the essential information, both theoretical and computational, in order that the reader can, starting from essentially nothing, understand how the electronic, optical and transport properties of semiconductor heterostructures are calculated. However, perhaps more importantly, starting from this low common denominator, this text is designed to lead the reader through a series of simple example theoretical and computational implementations, and slowly build from solid foundations, to a level where the reader can begin to initiate theoretical investigations or explanations of their own.
The author believes that there are two aspects to theoretical work, with the first being to analyse and interpret experimental data, while the second is to advance new ideas. His hope is that this book will certainly facilitate the former and will at least provide the knowledge and skills base from which quantified predictions can be developed from the beginnings of an idea. Written in the style of a mathematics course text, it is hoped that this book will appeal to readers from within as well as outside the low dimensional semiconductor community. Some of the examples developed are relevant to the semiconductor community at large, while the microscopic calculations presented could be of interest to other areas of condensed matter, such as carbon nanostructures, high-temperature superconductors, etc.
New material in this second edition includes:
- sections on effects of magnetic fields on quantum wells
- excited impurity levels
- screening of the optical phonon interaction
- acoustic and optical deformation potential scattering
- spin-orbit coupling in the pseudopotential calculation and
- New chapters on strained quantum wells and k.p theory.
Aimed at postgraduate students of semiconductor and condensed matter physics, the book will be invaluable to all those researching in academic and industrial laboratories worldwide.

From the reviews of the second edition:
"This is the second edition of the very successful book on quantum chromodynamics (QCD), which is part of an extensive series of textbooks by Greiner and co-authors. … The second edition is clearly an advance on the first and continues to be a very useful advanced textbook." (C.A Hurst, Mathematical Reviews, 2003 k)
"This book is a thorough introduction to the perturbative and nonperturbative Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) for advanced level graduate students in theoretical physics and scientists in high energy physics. It contains many worked-out exercises … . In conclusion, this book constitutes an excellent theoretical reference book, reflecting very well the present situation and problems in the field … ." (Laurent Favart, Physicalia, Vol. 25 (4), 2003)
The book is a self-contained introduction to perturbative and nonperturbative Quantum chromodynamics (QCD) with worked-out exercises for students of theoretical physics. It will be useful as a reference for research scientists as well. Starting with the hadron spectrum, the reader becomes familiar with the representations of SU(N). Relativistic quantum field theory is recapitulated, and scattering theory is discussed in the framework of scalar quantum electrodynamics. Then the gauge theory of quarks and gluons is introduced. In the more advanced chapters, perturbative and nonperturbative techniques in state-of-the-art QCD are discussed in great detail.
The new third edition has been extensively revised and enlarged to cover all new aspects in Quantum chromodynamics.

Innovations and Advanced Techniques in Computer and Information Sciences and Engineering includes a set of rigorously reviewed world-class manuscripts addressing and detailing state-of-the-art research projects in the areas of Computer Science, Computer Engineering and Information Sciences.
Innovations and Advanced Techniques in Computer and Information Sciences and Engineering includes selected papers form the conference proceedings of the International Conference on Systems, Computing Sciences and Software Engineering (SCSS 2006) which was part of the International Joint Conferences on Computer, Information and Systems Sciences and Engineering (CISSE 2006).
All aspects of the conference were managed on-line; not only the reviewing, submissions and registration processes; but also the actual conference. Conference participants - authors, presenters and attendees - only needed an internet connection and sound available on their computers in order to be able to contribute and participate in this international ground-breaking conference. The on-line structure of this high-quality event allowed academic professionals and industry participants to contribute work and attend world-class technical presentations based on rigorously refereed submissions, live, without the need for investing significant travel funds or time out of the office. Suffice to say that CISSE received submissions from more than 70 countries, for whose researchers, this opportunity presented a much more affordable, dynamic and well-planned event to attend and submit their work to, versus a classic, on-the-ground conference.
The CISSE conference audio room provided superb audio even over low speed internet connections, the ability to display PowerPoint presentations, and cross-platform compatibility (the conferencing software runs on Windows, Mac, and any other operating system that supports Java). In addition, the conferencing system allowed for an unlimited number of participants, which in turn granted CISSE the opportunity to allow all participants to attend all presentations, as opposed to limiting the number of available seats for each session.

The Language of Design: Theory and Computation articulates the theory that there is a language of design. This theory claims that any language of design consists of a set of symbols, a set of relations between the symbols, features that key the expressiveness of symbols, and a set of reality producing information processing behaviors acting on the language. Drawing upon insights from computational language processing, the language of design is modeled computationally through latent semantic analysis (LSA), lexical chain analysis (LCA), and sentiment analysis (SA). The statistical co-occurrence of semantics (LSA), semantic relations (LCA), and semantic modifiers (SA) in design text are used to illustrate how the reality producing effect of language is itself an enactment of design. This insight leads to a new understanding of the connections between creative behaviors such as design and their linguistic properties. The computation of the language of design makes it possible to make direct measurements of creative behaviors which are distributed across social spaces and mediated through language. The book demonstrates how machine understanding of design texts based on computation over the language of design yields practical applications for design management such as modeling teamwork, characterizing the formation of a design concept, and understanding design rationale.
The Language of Design: Theory and Computation is a unique text for postgraduates and researchers studying design theory and management, and allied disciplines such as artificial intelligence, organizational behavior, and human factors and ergonomics.

This volume contains lecture notes and poster contributions presented at the summer school “Mathematical Aspects of Quantum Computing”, held from 27 to 29 August, 2007 at Kinki University in Osaka, Japan. The aims of this summer school were to exchange and share ideas among researchers working in various fields of quantum computing particularly from a mathematical point of view, and to motivate students to tackle the advanced subjects of quantum computing.
Invited speakers to the summer school were asked to prepare their lecture notes in a self-contained way and therefore we expect that each contribution will be useful for students and researchers even with less background to the topic.
This summer school was supported by “Open Research Center” Project for Private Universities: matching fund subsidy from MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology).
We yearn for continued outstanding success in this field and wish to expand summer schools and conferences further in the field of quantum computing based at Kinki University.
Finally, we would like to thank Ms Zhang Ji of World Scientific for her excellent editorial work.

This book is a testament to collaboration. About five years ago, it became clear to several of us—at the University of Cambridge, Harvard Law School, and the University of Toronto—that we might accomplish more by working together, across institutions and continents, than we could by going it alone. Since that time, the Oxford Internet Institute has joined our team, along with more than fifty researchers around the globe. Collaboration is not easy; we have had our share of struggles along the way to keep our partnership functioning effectively. Neither the analytical chapters of this volume nor the new global data set that we have compiled, on which our analytical work relies, would be possible
